| This translation practice is excerpted from the book "A Research on the Farming Culture of Ethnic Groups in Southern Yunnan" by Li Xueliang,a famous scholar of ethnology, published by Ethnicity Press in 2006.The book is a theoretical monograph on the research of ethnic group cultures, covering seven chapters. This translation practice material is excerpted from the first three sections of Chapter 3,a field research study on the change of agricultural land use and environment and residents’ production and life in three ethnic villages in Xishuangbanna. The excerpt is a typical informative text with objective and rigorous language and include many table data to support the investigation facts, whose translation requires that the source language readers and target language readers get the basic equivalent messages under the same style to the greatest extent. Therefore, the functional equivalence theory proposed by Nida which not only emphasizes the translation content conveying equivalence, but also has certain requirements for the text form equivalence, has a certain guidance for this translation practice.Under the guidance of Functional Equivalence Theory, this translation practice focuses on the translation characteristics of "agricultural terms" and "inanimate subject statements" in agricultural science and technology English, summarizes the translation of characteristic agricultural terms and summarizes the basic structure according to different inanimate subjects in reverse. In the 21 th century, when exchanges between China and foreign countries are becoming more frequent, not only does China need to learn from foreign practical experiences and ideas, but also more students need to promote our successful research experiences and ancient culture to the world. This article is based on the analysis of the structure of the original Chinese text, and aims to make the translation more authentic under the guidance of Functional Equivalence Theory,so as to show more of the successful experience and the long cultural accumulation of the Chinese nation. |
