| Compulsory Education Curriculum Standards(2022)shows that reading plays an important role in English learning,and reading teaching is also the focus of English teaching.The teaching methods of junior high school English reading have been explored for many years.However,students,especially those in rural areas,are not interested in reading English and they do not perform as well as they should.In recent years,based on years of theory and education research,and from the actual situation of foreign language teaching in our country,Professor Wen Qiufang proposed the “Production-Oriented Approach”(POA)Since the establishment of the Production-Oriented Approach system,its effectiveness has been repeatedly verified.Most of the schools tested were urban high schools and in college English teaching or high school vocational English teaching.However,the English reading teaching experiments on the application of“Production-Oriented Approach” in rural junior high schools are relatively few.This study tries to apply Production-Oriented Approach in the English reading teaching of middle schools,so as to explore the following questions:(1)How to apply POA to English reading teaching in junior high school?(2)What is the effect of the applying POA to junior high school students on students’ reading scores?(3)What is the effect of the applying POA to junior high school students on students’ reading interest?The subjects of this study are students of two classes in a junior high school in Liaocheng,of which Class 2 are experimental classes and Class 5 are control classes.The research methods are tests,questionnaires and interviews.First of all,through pre-reading test results,the questionnaire and interview,the students’ reading learning status can be well understood.Then,the Production-Oriented Approach is applied to the English reading teaching in a rural middle school in Liaocheng,but the control class still uses traditional reading teaching method.Finally,the post-reading test,questionnaire and interview were conducted again for the two classes.Through data analysis by SPSS 26.0,the author draws the following conclusions:their average score in English reading is not only improved,but also significantly improved in details understanding,reasoning judgment,guessing the meaning of an article and judging the main idea of the article.The most obvious improvement is reasoning judgment and guessing the meaning of an article.Students’ interest in English reading is improved.Production-Oriented Approach can be effectively applied to English reading teaching in junior high school and make a conclusion from three aspects: Output-driven,input-enabled and output evaluation.This study attempts to apply the Production-Oriented Approach to English reading teaching in junior high school,and try to provide a new practical model for English reading teaching in junior high school.However,due to limitations such as short research time,further research is needed by other researchers. |
