The language acquisition of English is a process of internalizing knowledge.Listening,speaking,reading and writing play important roles in English learning.Among them,reading,as a means of input,is also crucial.The “text” is the goal of the traditional English reading teaching and the completion of learning process is from quantitative change to qualitative change through a large amount of reading input.This model is not beneficial to the students’ comprehensive development and it is easy to result in the phenomenon of “separation of learning and application”.Under the current educational background,the difficulty and competition of the high school entrance examination are becoming more and more serious.How to effectively teach English reading has been researched by many scholars and experts.Wen Qiufang has been exploring the input theory and output theory all the time in view of this phenomenon and the current situation of Chinese local teaching.In 2015,Wen Qiufang proposed a theoretical system of Production-oriented Approach.POA consists of three parts,which are teaching philosophy,teaching hypothesis and teaching process.The teaching method based on POA is to improve students’ ability to use language through output,so as to achieve the purpose of integrating learning with application.However,the current research subjects of POA teaching mainly focus on college students or senior high school students,and the research field mostly focuses on writing teaching or spoken teaching.The research of junior high school English reading teaching based on POA is relatively limited.Based on the current situation of English reading teaching,this research applies POA to English reading teaching in junior high school,aiming to explore the influence of POA on students’ English reading,so as to promote the development of POA.This research lasted for four months and took two parallel classes of Grade 8 of No.1 Middle School in Linfen,Shanxi Province as the research subjects,with63 students in each class.POA is adopted in the experimental class,while the traditional teaching method is adopted in the control class.Three research instruments are used in this research: questionnaire,test and interview and SPSS is used for data analysis.This research mainly tries to discuss the following two research questions:(1)What are the effects of the Production-oriented Approach on junior high school students’ reading experience,including reading interest,reading attitude and self-assessment?(2)What are the effects of the Production-oriented Approach on junior high school students’ reading grades and reading cognitive ability?Through the analysis of experimental data and interview results,the following conclusion is drawn:(1)The students in the experimental class have better reading experience than before,which indicates that the POA is beneficial to the promotion of students’ reading experience.Specifically,the students enjoy reading,actively participate in activities and improve the ability of self-assessment.(2)POA can improve students’ reading grades,their ability to identify and extract,their ability to summarize and analyze and their ability to criticize and evaluate,thus students can improve the reading cognitive ability.From the results of interview and tests,we can see the students’ confidence and interest in these types of questions have been improved to a certain extent and the students have mastered the corresponding reading skills.At the same time,their grades also further reflect the improvement oftheir reading cognitive ability. |
