A Survey Of The Present Situation Of English Picture Book Teaching In Primary Schools

The teaching method of English picture books has attracted more and more attention in the academic circle.English picture books are more in line with students’ language cognition and psychological characteristics because of their rich pictures and interesting characters.They can stimulate their reading interest,build their language sense,and develop their comprehensive language use ability.Teachers can bring different teaching experiences and win better teaching results by making rational use of English picture books and combining with the training objectives.In order to understand the current situation of English picture book teaching in primary schools in Fuyang City and improve the teaching effect of picture books,the author conducted an investigation on 200 primary school English teachers and 100 primary school students in public primary schools in Fuyang City from January 10 to May 10,2022.The research questions include: 1.What is the current situation of English picture book teaching in primary schools in Fuyang City;2.What are the problems in the current English picture book teaching in Fuyang primary schools;3.What are the causes of the current problems in English picture book teaching in Fuyang primary schools;4.How can we improve the level of English picture book teaching in Fuyang primary schools? The survey methods include questionnaire,interview and classroom observation.Use Excel and SPSS20.0 and other tools to analyze the survey data and generate experimental results.Through comprehensive analysis and investigation,it is found that the main problems in English picture book teaching in Fuyang primary schools are: 1.The use rate of picture books is low and there is a gap between urban and rural areas;2.The use of picture books lacks class hours,equipment and funds;3.The teaching form of teachers’ picture books is more conventional;4.Students lack experience in learning picture books.By analyzing these problems,the main reasons are found as follows: 1.The education authorities and schools lack attention to picture books;2.The school lacks support and guidance for picture book teaching;3.Teachers’ understanding and research on picture books are not deep enough;4.The communication between teachers and students is insufficient.On the basis of analyzing the problems and causes,the following four suggestions and strategies are put forward from the social,school,teachers,students and other levels:1.Improve the attention of picture book teaching;2.Improve teachers’ teaching ability of picture books;3.Enhance students’ sense of learning experience of picture books;4.All parties increase support for picture book teaching.Through these improvements,I hope to improve the teaching effect of English picture books in primary schools.
