| At present,the English reading teaching in high school is still relatively traditional,and most of the teachers still take the mechanical and word-by-word teaching method,which results in low interest in reading and bad reading habits.However,the new English Curriculum Standard for Regular High School(2017)has shifted to cultivate students’ comprehensive reading ability;In addition,the reading comprehension of the new college entrance examination obviously tests more about the reading generalization ability.In this context,the present study tries to explore the impact of Whole Language Approach on students’ English reading generalization ability by designing a relevant teaching mode.At the same time,based on the Holistic Approach put forward by Han Baocheng(2018)and theoretical frameworks such as humanism and the Krashen hypothesis,the author constructs a new Whole Language Teaching Mode of “Whole Construction-Comprehensive learning – Reconstruction”(hereinafter referred to as “WWLTM”),and tries to answer the following two research questions:1)How does “WWLTM” affect the reading interest and reading habits of high school students?2)How does “WWLTM” affect the reading generalization ability of high school students?The author conducted a three-month empirical study using research tools such as English reading tests and questionnaires.Questionnaires were conducted twice;At the same time,pre-tests were conducted in the experimental class and the control class;Then the experimental class implemented reading teaching based on the “WWLTM”,and the control class adopted the traditional reading teaching method;After the experiment,two classes were tested separately and the same questionnaire was conducted.Finally,the data collected was analyzed by using SPSS20.0 software and then summarized and discussed.The analysis of experimental data and the feedback of the questionnaire shows that the "WWLTM" teaching can effectively improve students’ English reading generalization ability,and helps to cultivate students’ reading interest and to develop students’ good reading habits.Thus,this approach has a positive impact on English reading teaching in high schools.At the end of the present thesis,some suggestions were made to bring some inspiration to the development of English reading teaching in China. |
