The Research On Farewell Poems Of Bai Juyi

Bai Juyi had a wealth of parting experiences,and wrote more than 160 farewell poems in his life,which ranks in the forefront of farewell poems in the Tang Dynasty.As a representative poet of the Mid-Tang Dynasty,Bai Juyi’s cognition and creative practice on the theme of parting provides an effective way to exactly understand the creation and historical evolution of farewell poems in the mid-Tang Dynasty.This paper takes Bai Juyi’s farewell poems as the research object,investigates the whole picture of Bai Juyi’s farewell poems,shows the poet’s complex emotional connotation and unique artistic expression,and explores the unique position of Bai Juyi’s farewell poems in the history of the development of farewell poems in the Tang Dynasty.The introduction part of the article first explains the reasons for choosing the topic,then briefly sorts out the development process of farewell poems,defines the concept of farewell poems,and clarifies the selection criteria of Bai Juyi’s farewell poems,and finally makes a detailed review of the research status of this topic.The main body of the thesis is divided into four parts: The first chapter clarifies Bai Juyi’s diachronic understanding of the theme of parting through the phased development of Bai Juyi’s farewell poems.It is found that the poet paid special attention to the separation of intimacy when he sought for a official career in youth,while the poet’s self-awareness was manifested through the perspective of parting from others during official travel of middle age.And the poet’s perception on parting was more calm after returning the capital city in old age.The second chapter aims to explore the functional value of Bai Juyi’s farewell poems,and examines the social interaction function of farewell poems from two aspects: one-to-one private dialogue and many-to-one collective creation.Besides,in the poet’s observation on parting from others and self,the development process of the formation and changes of his ideological value will be found.The third chapter focuses on the rich expression of various temporal and spatial deformation methods in Bai Juyi’s farewell poems,such as the extension and contraction of time,the freeze frame and jump of space,the opposition and combination of time and space,and explores the poet’s ability to recreate the artistic beauty of farewell poems.The fourth chapter examines Bai Juyi’s farewell poems in the history of the formation and development of farewell poems,and takes the poems of leaving office and the poems of the parting night as examples,by comparing Bai Juyi’s farewell poems with the farewell poems of representative poets in different periods,to illustrate the poet’s innovative consciousness and aesthetic interest on the theme of parting.
