A Study Of Farewell Poems Of Baijuyi

Bai Juyi had a wide range of friends throughout his life,and had traveled to various places due to his official promotion and demotion.He had rich farewell experiences and wrote a total of 155 farewell poems,truthfully recording the various farewell behaviors that occurred in the his life.The author takes these 155 farewell poems by Bai Juyi as the research object,attempting to analyze the overall creative situation of the poet,the emotional connotations expressed in the poems,and the artistic characteristics displayed,and explore its specific position in the development of farewell poems.This article is divided into four chapters.The first chapter mainly provides an overview of the development status of farewell poetry in the early and prosperous Tang Dynasty,as well as the trend of writing poetry to bid farewell.The farewell poems of the early and prosperous Tang Dynasty were mainly composed of palace literati and had obvious social attributes.Later,with the downward trend of writing poetry to bid farewell,the lower level literati group represented by the Four Famous Poets of the early Tang Dynasty(Wangbo,Luo Binwang,Yangjiong and Lu Zhaoling)and Chen Ziang gradually brought the farewell poems back to the track of lyricism.The prosperous Tang Dynasty was a period of prosperity and development for farewell poetry,exhibiting a unique emotional style of the times while also achieving remarkable achievements in creative art.After a period of development in the early and prosperous Tang Dynasty,the trend of writing poetry to bid farewell has spread from top to bottom to various parts of society,and Bai Juyi’s farewell poetry creation is in this development background.The second chapter mainly explores the relationship between Bai Juyi’s life experience and his farewell poetry creation.From the perspective of time,Bai Juyi’s farewell poetry creation is specifically divided into four periods,namely the early period before and after Chang’an’s official career,the period before and after his demotion to Zhongzhou and Jiangzhou,the period before and after his official career in Suzhou and Hangzhou,and the period before and after his retirement in Luoyang.The creative characteristics and emotional tendencies of each period’s works are analyzed in depth,and then outline the overall situation of the poet’s farewell poetry creation.The third chapter mainly carefully examines the farewell objects of Bai Juyi’s farewell poems,dividing them into three categories: official friends,relatives,and monks and Taoists.Official friends focus on specific analysis of Yuan Zhen,Liu Yuxi,and others who have close relationships with the poet.Relatives focus on specific analysis of the younger brother Bai Xingjian and his cousin younger brother Bai Minzhong,who can be found in historical materials.Monks and Taoists mainly analyze the objects involved in the poems.Through these to explore the emotional differences exhibited by Bai Juyi in seeing off objects with different identities and relationships,as well as the impact of the farewell objects on the poet’s farewell poetry creation.The fourth chapter mainly analyzes the artistic characteristics of Bai Juyi’s farewell poems in comparison with the creation of previous farewell poems,including the use of detailed narrative methods to write farewell expressions,the conscious description of local customs and the special interest of expressing emotions by bidding farewell to all things,and the deepening of self emotions.The pioneering expression of Bai Juyi’s farewell poems in creation guided later farewell poems towards a new development path that tended to express more personalized farewell emotions in daily life.
