As remote simultaneous interpreting gains popularity, visual support in the form of Power Point slides becomes an extra way of conveying information. There have been exploratory, but limited, studies on whether an additional source of information could facilitate or hinder interpreters’ performance.By studying a group of ten student interpreters who conducted simultaneous interpretation from English to Chinese on two speeches(similar in both structure and content)supported by slides in different degrees of lexical density, this thesis aims to explore the impact of Power Point slides on interpreters in remote simultaneous interpretations. The output is evaluated by the number of disfluencies, omissions and mistakes. On average, the interpretation of speeches accompanied by less lexically dense presentations are found to be more fluent, but also slightly more error prone. The results suggest that a presentation containing complete clauses could positively impact the fluency of the performance, but there is no notable(or slightly negative)impact on interpretation accuracy.
