A Study On Simultaneous Interpreting Under The Perspective Of Multimodality

The corpus is taken from “2021 Huawei Developer Conference”,in which Huawei has introduced its latest technological breakthroughs and innovations to developers and partners.With the facilitation of technology,simultaneous interpreters can receive input from different modalities at the same time,which is multi-modal audiovisual input(the speaker’s words and slides’ content).Through the study of multi-modal theory and the analysis of the corpus,this thesis focuses on the implications of slides on the interpreting performance of simultaneous interpreters,that is to discuss the influence of slides on the accuracy,fluency and completeness of the interpretation output of simultaneous interpreters according to the content of slides presented and the duration of each slide.While improving the accuracy and completeness of the interpreting output,the complementary content on the slides has no significant positive on the fluency of interpreting output.The redundant content on the slides can improve the integrity and fluency of the interpreters’ output while has no significant positive effects on accuracy.Short slides duration has no prominent positive effect on interpreters’ interpreting performance and interpreters are prone to pause and make corrections.
