COVID-19 has caused major impacts on all walks of life,especially on international exchanges.Under this background,Internet-based services,including remote interpreting,are being accepted by more people,and even become the first choice.Video conferencing software such as ZOOM,VOOV Meeting and 5G mobile communication technology have provided platforms for Remote Simultaneous Interpreting(RSI)and changed the way of simultaneous interpreting.On September 18 and September 26,2021,the author participated as an interpreter in the Global Women Leadership forum held by Her Era club,a non-profit organization co-founded by females from China,US,UK,Australia,the Netherland and other countries.The forum was conducted through Zoom and broadcast live on Bilibili and YouTube.This paper reviews the author’s RSI performance and analyzes the problems under Li Changshuan’s Understanding,Memorizing,Expression and Emergency Response(UMEER)framework.The analysis attempts to identify the interrelationship of different modalities in RSI,reflects on the main problems encountered by the interpreter and proposes improvement methods.Using UMEER to analyze the RSI practice helped the writer to realize shortcomings caused by knowledge,intonation,rate and clarity of delivery,semantic density,linguistic difference and new online environment and improving directions in regard of understanding,memorizing,expression and emergency response through preparation,deverbalization,knowledge accumulation and so on,which greatly inspired the writer to ameliorate future interpreting works.The writer also hopes that the thesis can give assistance to student interpreter in the face of the online working environment and provide values with remote interpreting teaching. |
