Based on the current studies of listening teaching in teaching Chinese as a foreign language and the problems about listening abilities of intermediate Chinese, this paper explores whether shadowing has influence on the listening ability and different listening micro skills of intermediate Chinese learners, and whether its influence lasts. On the basis of the experimental results, some suggestions are put forward for the future teaching of intermediate Chinese listening.10 Chinese learners at HSK4-level participated in the 2-week experiment, with 4times training per week, and each training lasts about 30 minutes. They were randomly assigned to the experimental group and the control group. Before the training started,a pretest was conducted to ensure that participants’ listening abilities were comparable.During the training, the subjects in the experimental group received shadowing training, and the others received traditional listening training, that is,listening while doing test, and relistening after knowing the answers. After the training, the subjects finished a post-test,which was the same as the pretest. Two weeks after the training,a delayed post-test was conducted with all the participants. The results showed that the performance of the subjects in the experimental group was significantly better than that of the control group in the post-test and delayed post-test,and there was a significant improvement in terms of listening scores compared with the pretest.Given the statistical analysis results of the experimental data,it is indicated that shadowing has a positive impact on the listening ability and different listening micro skill of intermediate Chinese learners and has a continuous effect. On this basis,we make suggestions for future intermediate Chinese listening teaching.Teachers should be familiar with the theory and method of shadowing while using it.Also, explaining the positive influence of shadowing on Chinese listening ability to students.Secondly, teachers should recompose the shadowing materials and selects appropriate shadowing methods for students’ weaker listening micro ability. |
