Abstract/Summary:
During simultaneous interpretation from Chinese to German,Interpreters have to deal with quite a few challenges, considering the linguistic and cultural differences between Chinese and German. The Chinese speeches are generally delivered with prepared written versions, rich in a large number of conceptual expressions with Chinese speech features, and the information density is relatively high.Furthermore, the logical relationship between the sentences is implied between the lines, while the communicative intention of the speaker is relatively implicit. As a result,it is essential to apply explicitation to make the target language better understood. This paper first defines the concepts of Chinese-German simultaneous interpreting with text and then discusses the classifications of the method of explicitation.Through case analysis, the author has difficulties in conveying the messages at the conceptual, discourse and interpersonal levels. This requires the interpreters to further make the specific terms or concepts, the logic of the discourse and the speaker’s intention more explicit,so as to smooth interaction between the speaker and the audience.
