Simultaneous interpretation is widely used for its swift delivery and short time lag among the various kinds of interpretation. With the development of globalization and more interaction between China and the outside world,English-Chinese simultaneous interpretation plays a very important role between China and other countries.Syntactic linearity strategy is one of the most significant strategies in the simultaneous interpretation and most commonly used by interpreters. The paper is a simulated simultaneous interpretation report with the classic speech Understanding the rise of China by Martin Jacques as the object of practice.Based on the interpretive theory, the report discusses the use of linear interpretation strategy with sense groups as interpreting units in the practice and puts forward some solutions to overcoming the difficulties in the interpretation process. In the case study, some methods are suggested to deal with the difficult sentences in the interpreting.Through the analyses of the task, the conclusions are drawn as follows:the interpretive theory is of vital importance to interpreting practice. The method of linear interpretation with sense groups as interpreting units can fulfill both "faithfulness" and "expressiveness".Even though the formal equivalence is impossible to be established, the function of the original can be maintained during the interpreting. Moreover, precise choice of words, specific background knowledge of source language text, understanding the speaker’s mentality, linguistic style and the accurate interpretation of culture-specific words are all the prerequisites for appropriate and adequate interpreting.
