Insufficiency Of Explicitation In Chinese-French Interpretation And Its Solutions

In the process of consecutive interpretation,in order to meet the audience’s expectation and achieve the communicative purpose,interpreters will adopt many strategies to improve the quality of the translation,among which explicitation is one of the common strategies,and the successful application of explicitation can make the translation logically coherent and semantically clear.In this paper,the author takes the fourth Sino-French Seminar on Cooperation and Exchange in Artificial Intelligence in 2022 as a case study,transcribes and evaluates the source language and the translated language,and analyzes and attributes examples of explicitation insufficiency from three major meta-functions of language(ideational,textual and interpersonal functions).Finally,the author summarizes five corresponding countermeasures to improve the effect of explicitation in terms of preparation before interpretation,listening and analysis process,information presentation,notes-taking,communication awareness and knowledge reserve.The author hopes that these methods can help refine interpreting skills and also enrich the corpus of Chinese and French pairs in terms of explicitation strategies,so as to provide reference for more non-universal language interpreters.
