Sri Lanka is an important country along the"The Belt and Road".This strong rapport between the two countries with the exchanges of different nature has expanded towards education as well initiating Chinese education in Sri Lanka.Chinese education in Sri Lanka has been now established in different schools,universities and other institutes.Among Sri Lankan universities,Chinese is teaching in four universities as a major,in nine universities as elective courses,in two Confucius Institutes,in one Confucius Classroom.An increase in the demand for Chinese in Sri Lanka can be observable and along with this demand,the requirement of Chinese teaching resources also has increased.Accordingly,this study attempts to use questionnaire survey and interview methods to comprehensively sort out the current usage of paper and digital Chinese teaching resources in Sri Lanka,to examine in detail the current situation of the use of various Chinese teaching resources in Sri Lankan universities,to summarize their development characteristic,and to analyze the challenges encountered in constructing Chinese teaching resources in Sri Lanka under the current situation.Challenges are analyzed in depth.In response to the current problems of Sri Lankan paper-based teaching resources;lack of communication with the Chinese education department,shortage of teaching materials;lack of top-level design,limited construction and promotion of teaching resources,insufficient funding and manpower support,lack of impetus for the development of local teaching materials,failure to effectively meet market demand,imbalance between development and use,etc.are common challenges identified.In response to the emergence of digital teaching resources,the demand for digital resources has grown.However,the availability of resources are less and the quality and distribution also are uneven.The utilization rate of digital resources in China is also not enough,and the promotion is also restricted.The local digital resources are still in their infancy,and there is a lack of human resources and policy support.This study puts forward suggestions and recommendations collected from the three levels of government,schools and teachers to address the challenges identified.Formulating the Chinese education syllabus,establishing standards and specifications for the construction of teaching resources,strengthening communication with the Chinese education department,improving the speed of updating teaching resources,increasing investment,and supporting the construction of local teaching resources are some suggestions to be taken from the government level.Secondly,at the school level,promoting the construction of Chinese majors in colleges and universities,emphasizing the employment orientation of Chinese teacher training,providing control to Confucius Institutes,building a resource sharing platform,and broadening publicity channels,cooperating with local Chinese institutions to activate the power of local teaching resources are suggested.Thirdly,at the teacher level,strengthening the cooperation between teachers from both sides,and building a teaching resource research and development team with complementary advantages between China and Sri Lanka and developing local Chinese teaching resources based on demand are important.
