Currently, water security is becoming increasingly prominent, which not only restricts regional development, but also causes various social conflicts. The book Water Security,Conflict and Cooperation in Peri-Urban South Asia illustrates water security in peri-urban South Asia, and tries to explore effective solutions to the issues. The translation of the book is of great significance for the client of this translation project and relevant researchers. This report selects Chapters 7-8 of the book Water Security,Conflict and Cooperation in Peri-Urban South Asia as its practice material.Guided by Verschueren’s Theory of Linguistic Context Adaptation, this report mainly analyses the problems the author encountered in this practice from three aspects: contextual cohesion, intertextuality and sequencing to explore the application of the theory in typical cases. At the level of contextual cohesion, adjustments are made in the grammatical and lexical cohesion by use of literal translation, omission, and lexical repetition. At the level of intertextuality, language selection is achieved through the adaptation of lexical meaning, omitted information and collocations. In terms of sequencing, sentence adjustments are made to adapt the logico-semantic relations of the original text. This report aims to summarize the translation methods and skills of informative texts by illustrating the use of linguistic context adaptation theory in translation practice,so as to provide reference for other translators. |
