A Report On E-C Translation Of Water Security,Conflict And Cooperation In Peri-Urban South Asia(Chapters 1-2)

Water security is a prominent problem in the development of human society.Taking peri-urban South Asia as an example,the book,Water Security,Conflict and Cooperation in Peri-Urban South Asia,explores a series of water security issues and then puts forward some tentative suggestions,which is very valuable for the research on water security.This report is based on the English to Chinese translation of Chapters 1-2 of Water Security,Conflict and Cooperation in Peri-Urban South Asia.First of all,the translation project and translation process are introduced in this report.And then,the author analyzes some typical translation cases under the guidance of translation shifts theory and textual cohesion theory.At the lexical and syntactic level,the author discusses level shifts and category shifts,guided by Catford’s Translation Shifts Theory.At the discourse level,the author analyzes the shifts of cohesive devices––reference,ellipsis and conjunction,guided by Halliday and Hasan’s Textual Cohesion Theory.Finally,the gains and shortcomings of this translation project are summarized.Through the translation practice,the author’s translation skill has improved.It is hoped that the translation study in this report can provide reference for the translation of informative texts.
