| Tourism is embarking on a new journey after the epidemic.Cross-border tourism cannot develop without external publicity, while the translation of tourism texts plays a key role in this process. The quality of translation directly affects tourists’ understanding and attitude towards the destination.Although a series of studies on tourism text translation have been carried out at home and abroad, and considerable results have been achieved, the quality of tourism translation in China still needs to be improved.Tourism translation has become a constraint to the spread of Chinese culture and the further development of overseas markets in China’s tourism industry,so active steps must be taken for further research in this field. The source text of this translation practice is based on Appreciating Guilin from a Different Perspective. The author of this book believes that Guilin has always enjoyed the reputation of “east or west,Guilin scenery is the best”,but its prominent landscape masks the cultural diversity of Guilin, resulting tourists’ less understanding of other cultures in Guilin. Therefore, the author delves into the style of Guilin’s niche tourist places from a unique perspective.Guided by the Skopos Theory, this translation practice report analyzes and summarizes the English version Appreciating Guilin from a Different Perspective. The research background and significance are stated in Chapter 1.Then,the process of the translation, including pre-translation preparation,while-translation analysis and post-translation revision,is briefly described in Chapter 2.Besides,the guiding theory of this translation practice is introduced, and the difference between Chinese and English texts is pointed out from the level of language and culture in Chapter 3.Moreover,case study on the target text, guided by the three principles of Skopos Theory(namely skopos rule, coherence rule and fidelity rule),and based on the acceptability of the readers,is listed in Chapter 4.Finally,the whole process of this translation project and this report are concluded. This report illustrates the application of translation methods: literal translation, free translation, amplification and omission in the translation of tourism texts, and finally points out the gains and shortcomings. The purpose of this report is to enlighten other translators who are making research on tourist texts, providing them with some practical suggestions in translation. |
