| The translation practice is based on the tourism text of the large-scale performances in Songcheng, which involves a wide range of content such as the history and culture of more than ten famous tourist cities in China, the names of local scenic spots, and the origins of festivals, which are representative to a certain extent. The translation of the text will help to promote the tourism characteristics and customs of various parts of China so that foreign tourists will have a deeper understanding of China. At the same time,it serves as a model for publicity materials and manuals for future series of performances by Songcheng Group. The purpose of tourism text translation is to tell Chinese stories well and to promote cultural exchanges between China and the West. Therefore, the report analyzes representative translation cases and discusses the translation techniques and methods of the tourism text based on the guidance of the three rules of the Skopos Theory. In conformity to the skopos rule, coherence rule, and fidelity rule, the translator carefully analyzes the translation, involving people’s names, place names,four-character structure, and poems. In conformity to the skopos rule, the literal translation plus a footnote, transliteration plus an annotation, and free translation are adopted for the words with local, ethnic characteristics and ancient place names appearing in the text and to express the cultural connotation of the words entirely and accurately so as to realize their communicative value. In conformity to the coherence rule, the translator flexibly adopted the addition, conversion, and synthesis to deal with the logical relationship of complex sentences and the four-character phrases appearing in the text.In conformity to the fidelity rule, the translator adopted the translation methods of transliteration plus literal translation and paraphrasing to translate the poems and the names related to scenic spots in the text. Finally, the report comprehensively evaluates the adaptability of the original and translated texts of Songcheng’s large-scale performances in the three rules of Skopos Theory,as well as its profound guiding significance for translation practice. With the translation report, the translator not only discusses the solutions to relevant translation problems to achieve the cross-cultural communication of translation in which theory and practice are closely joined but also hopes that the report guided by Skopos Theory can enlighten translators who are engaged in the future study of tourism texts translation. |
