A Report On The Translation Of Power,media And The Covid-19 Pandemic: Framing Public Discourse(Chapters 10-11)

The source text of this project is from chapters 10-11 of Power,Media and the Covid-19 Pandemic: Framing Public Discourse.The two chapters were respectively written by Sumaya Alnahed and Ruth Garland,which analyze the acts of public communication of BBC and the British government during the covid-19 pandemic from the perspectives of politics,journalism,civil rights,cultural studies,discourse and rhetoric.The source text includes two social science papers with objective,professional and formal language.According to Peter Newmark’s theory of text typology,such text is classified into informative texts aiming at accurately transmitting information to target readers.Nominalizations,long and complex sentences and expressions showing cultural default are translation difficulties in the process of translation.In order to achieve accuracy and readability of the translation,the translator adopted conversion,splitting,annotation,etc.under the guidance of Newmark’s theory of communicative translation.By conducting the translation report,the translator hopes to provide references for translating the same type of texts and improve the quality of translations.
