This paper selects an English Chinese translation project of an introductory textbook of economics as a case study. The original text of the textbook contains a large number of long and complex sentences, and the proportion of long difficult sentences in the original text is about 36.4%.These long and complex sentences can be divided into the following categories: 1.Complicated simple sentences: such sentences have clear structure,an obvious main component, and other modifiers, coordinate components or clauses around the main component;2.Post attributive sentences: most of the modifiers of such sentences are post attributives, which are short, and translation according to the order of the original text does not conform to the Chinese expression habits,so it is often necessary to change the position of the post attributive in translation;3.Separate structure sentence: In order to balance the sentence structure and avoid being top heavy and foot light, two sentence elements which are closely related in grammar are often separated by other grammatical elements in English sentences, which is called separate structure. This paper has analyzed and summarized the above difficulties, and referred to the translation strategies that can be used in translating long and difficult sentences summarized by relevant scholars, and combined with the cases in the economics textbook, finally proposed the corresponding translation strategies: 1.For complicated simple sentences, the sequential translation method can be used to retain the sentence structure and order of the original text to the greatest extent;2.For post attributive sentences, the inclusion method can be used to change the position of the attribute,so that the translation is more suitable for Chinese expression habits;3.Separate translation can be used to separate long and complex sentences into independent short sentences. In the process of translation, the author comprehensively uses the translation strategies summarized by Peter Newmark,Zhang Peiji and other scholars when translating long and complex sentences, hoping to provide reference for the translation of other economic texts.
