Strategies For Translating Long And Complex English Sentences

Long and complex sentences are key and difficult points in English-Chinese translation. Based on the translation of The Female Vision, the translator further discusses the strategies for translating long and complex English sentences. The Chapter one and the Chapter two in The Female Vision have been selected as the content of the English-Chinese translation practice. The Female Vision mainly shows the importance of the female vision as well as the women's potential in the workplace and how to strive for fair positions in organizations. The Female vision uses the long and complex sentences frequently. And the sentence patterns are diverse with complicated modifiers. So the translator concludes the strategies for translating the long and complex sentences in the process of the translation. The original text belongs to non-literary text. Faithfulness and fluency are guiding standards. Meanwhile, the translator uses Nida's Functional Equivalence Theory to analyze the translation of non-literary texts. This paper records the whole translation process and gives a description of the case analysis. And the translator deeply comprehends the strategies for translating the long and complex sentences, which has a important significance for future study.This translation report comprises of three parts: the introduction,main body and conclusion. In Introduction, the translator gives an introduction the book as well as the significance of translating this book. Main body has three chapter. Chapter One is task description. In this section, the content and translation target are introduced and the characteristics of source text are analyzed.Chapter Two is process description.This chapter describes the three stages of translation process: pre-translation,implementation and proofreading. Chapter Three is case analysis. In this part,problems in translation are put forward and translation strategies and methods are used accordingly. The final part of this report is Conclusion, in which the translator thinks carefully about the translation process and summarizes with experience and translation theories.
