| The deepening of curriculum reform and the implementation of subject core competencies indicate that junior high school English classrooms are facing new needs and challenges.According to the classroom teaching suggestions in the English Curriculum Standards(2022 edition),it is required to strengthen the integrity of unit teaching,implement teaching based on the unit education blueprint,and guide students to gradually construct their understanding of unit themes.How to teach junior high school English listening and speaking classes under the principle of unit overall teaching is a new topic.Taking 52 ninth grade students and 5 English teachers as the research objects,the author conducted an action research on the unit overall teaching of listening and speaking in junior high school English class through classroom observation and interviews,aiming to answer the following questions:(1)What is the current situation of listening and speaking teaching in junior high school English based on unit overall teaching?(2)How can teachers better design and implement unit overall teaching in junior high school English listening and speaking teaching?(3)What will be the changes and impacts on the English grades and English learning attitudes of junior high school students after the implementation of unit overall teaching in the middle school English listening and speaking classroom?The author designed and implemented an action research on unit overall teaching based on the framework.By observing students’ classroom performance,it is possible to determine whether their action plans have achieved the expected goals,as well as the impact of the overall unit teaching on students’ listening and speaking classes.Combining classroom observations,this study also uses interview data to understand the current application of unit wide teaching and attitudes towards students’ English learning.The action research was divided into two rounds,lasting four months.The first round of research collected data through interviews with 52 students and 5 teachers,as well as classroom observations,from September to October 2022.Both teachers and students are in the adaptation stage,finding problems,adjusting in time,and preparing for the second round of action research.In the second round of comprehensive adjustment of the action plan,the overall teaching of the unit is implemented.Data is mainly collected through tools such as interviews and classroom observations,research results are obtained.Firstly,through multiple interviews with teachers and students,we can find that their feedback on the overall teaching of the unit in the classroom is gradually shifting from a vague understanding to a positive and profound impact of understanding it.From this perspective,implementing unit overall teaching can make students have a positive attitude towards English learning.Secondly,based on the ranking results,both the pass rate and the excellent student rate in the class have steadily increased,which also has an impact on students’ learning outcomes.In addition,the author summarizes the corresponding overall teaching steps and strategies for the unit: we should conduct in-depth discourse research;Establish unit teaching objectives and listening and speaking teaching objectives;create an English listening and speaking scenario chain;Timely carry out the evaluation of listening and speaking teaching for the overall teaching of the unit.This study has certain reference value for junior high school English listening and speaking teaching under the unit overall teaching. |
