Listening,speaking,reading and writing are the five basic language skills in English.Among them,listening and speaking have always played a vital role in English teaching,which is one of the primary forms of communication.With the implementation of the English Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2022 edition),students’ language ability is facing higher requirements.In the author’s research school,teachers still adopt traditional teaching methods and neglect to cultivate students’ listening and speaking ability.The emergence of modern communicative approach can improve the above problems to a large extent.Therefore,this study applies communicative approach to conduct action research on junior high school English listening and speaking teaching,trying to explore the value of the communicative approach in the new era.The action study explores the following questions:(1)What’s the influence of the communicative approach on the status of English listening and speaking teaching in junior high school?(2)How does the communicative approach enhance students’ interest in listening and speaking?(3)How does the communicative approach improve students’ listening and speaking ability?In this study,53 students were selected as research objects to conduct two rounds of teaching action research for 16 weeks from a middle school in Datong City.The author firstly made a questionnaire survey to understand the current situation of students’ English learning and the teachers’ understanding of listening and speaking teaching and communicative approach.Then,the author compared the test results before and after listening and speaking.Lastly,interviews were conducted to find out the teachers’ acceptance of the communicative approach.The results show that the application of the communicative approach in junior middle school English listening and speaking teaching has apparent effects and improvement.(1)It is feasible to apply this method to junior middle school English listening and speaking teaching,which can improve the existing problems and current situation of English listening and speaking teaching.Teachers have a deeper understanding of the communicative approach and begin to pay attention to the flexible application of the communicative approach.(2)This method enhances students’ interest in learning English listening and speaking to a great extent.It can create a good classroom atmosphere for students,gradually improve their learning initiative and enthusiasm to participate in class,and make students more interested in learning.(3)This method significantly improves students’ English listening and speaking ability.Diversified extracurricular activities give students more opportunities to practice English listening and speaking;through a large number of language input and multiple sensory stimulation,students can practice English listening and speaking more to gradually improve their listening and speaking ability.
