| This is a report on the translation of The Age of AI and Our Human Future.The original material in general describes what role of Artificial Intelligence(AI)is,what issues humans will face in the age of AI and what relationships AI and human beings are in the future.All classical cases analyzed and studied in the translation report are from Chapter 6 and Chapter 7 of The Age of AI and Our Human Future.The source text is a sci-tech text.Also,the targeted text highlights the accuracy and authenticity of information transfer.Em dashes are frequently used in the source material to form long and complex sentences with clear logic and complete structure.The use of em dashes varies between Chinese and English,with English em dashes being used significantly more frequently than their Chinese equivalents,according to an analysis of the variations between the two languages.The main challenge the translator faces in the process of translation is how to handle the em dashes in the source text to suit readers’ preferences of the targeted text and how to accurately convey the meaning and emotion of the em dashes.The translator uses Eugene Nida’s functional equivalence theory as her theoretical foundation to analyze the classical cases in the translation practice in order to overcome the difficulty.With the theory as a guide,the translator adopts methods like integrating em dashes into sentences,keeping the original form and turning em dashes into brackets to deal with the translation of em dashes,aiming at discussing the applicability of the theory in the translation of sci-tech texts and punctuation. |
