This is a report on the translation of the fourth chapter of the popular science book We are all whalers: the plight of whales and our responsibility.The fourth chapter centers on introducing the sustainable whaling tradition of the Inuit people,enabling readers to notice the huge damage of commercial whaling activities of the European.The translation is of great significance in improving target readers’ awareness in protecting and caring about whales,broadening readers’ horizons and meeting the reading needs of those who have an interest in whales and marine biology.Guided by Nemark’s Communicative Translation,the translator focuses on the translation of terms,words in Inuit language,metaphor,and long and complicated sentences in this report.The translator hopes to provide more natural and acceptable translation for target readers,reproducing the original scientificity,literariness,popularity,and interestingness.To achieve this goal,the translator selects suitable translation techniques,such as addition and annotation.
