| In recent years,China’s economy has developed rapidly,promoting the development of education,culture,science and technology,and people’s demand for scientific and cultural knowledge has become higher.More and more popular science works have been introduced into China.Meanwhile,popular science translation has begun to play an important role in cultural and scientific exchanges.At present,there are many kinds of popular science books on the domestic market,but the overall quality is relatively low.Faced with this problem,the author translated the third chapter of Coming Home:Reentry and Recovery.from the Space,a book from NASA,and analyzed the translation under the guidance of Peter Newmark’s Communicative Translation Theory.The purpose is to explore the issues that should be paid attention to in popular science translation.This thesis includes four parts.The first part is the introduction to the research,including the research background,research questions,methodology.introduction to the source text and the structure of the research.The second part is literature review,including Newmark’s text typology theory,communicative translation theory,and the latest research trends of popular science translation.The third part is the case analysis,which is proceeded on lexical syntactic and textual levels.The last part is the conclusion,limitations,and suggestions.In translation,under the guidance of Newmark’s communicative translation theory.the author used different translation methods including non-translation,annotation,paraphrase,word choosing,conversion of nominalization,structural adjustments,translation of passive voice.addition and omission,and cohesion and coherence.Indeed,in this thesis the author cannot list all the translation methods.The purpose of this thesis is to provide thoughts for popular science translation by exploring popular science translation under the guidance of communicative translation theory. |
