The source text of this translation project is excerpted from chapters 1-4 of Fragile Futures: The Uncertain Economics of Disasters,Pandemics, and Climate Change, written by Vito Tanzi,a world-famous economist. This book deals with uncertain economics caused by uncertain events, such as natural disasters, pandemics, and climate change, and its damage to people. It analyses what kind of role governments should play in dealing with different kinds of economic situations. At the same time, the author shares some solutions to responding to uncertain events. The translator has encountered some challenges and difficulties in the process of translation. Some terms are not easy to be understood by common people.Due to the difference between English and Chinese, passive sentences and attributive clauses should be shifted to conform to the receptor language’s system. The source text is informative text, and its aim is to deliver its information correctly.Translation is an ostensive-inferential process in light of Relevance Theory, and it follows that the responsibility of the translator is to achieve optimal relevance by increasing contextual effect and to make the target text concise and acceptable with little processing cost. Therefore, under the guidance of Relevance Theory, the translator adopts amplification and annotation to translate terms.Recasting and division are employed to translate attributive clauses.Conversion and addition are used to translate passive sentences. In the end,the translator makes a conclusion, including the experience gained from this project and some problems to be solved.
