According to the English Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2022edition),English reading teaching should be learner-centered and guide students to fully understand the discourse knowledge,acquire the meaning of the discourse,and realize the dialogue with the author.However,generally speaking,in most English teaching courses,teachers tend to choose the traditional English reading teaching method,that is,the teacher is the leader of the class and the students are just the simple receivers of knowledge.In this way of teaching,students’ initiative can not play,unable to master effective reading strategies,students’ English reading comprehension ability will be difficult to improve.Based on schema theory and humanistic learning theory,this study applies DRTA teaching method to junior middle school English reading teaching,so as to explore whether this teaching method can effectively improve students’ English reading comprehension ability.Therefore,this study takes Class 8 and Class 10,Grade 9,H Middle School,Yunyang County,Chongqing as experimental objects.The DRTA teaching method is used in Class 8,Grade 9,and the existing reading teaching method is continued in Class10,Grade 9.Combined with the results of pre and post test and interview,the research results are as follows: there is no significant difference in the reading comprehension ability of the two classes before the experiment,but after the experiment,the use of DRTA teaching in English reading teaching can slightly improve students’ reading performance,that is,improve students’ English reading comprehension ability,and students hold a positive attitude towards DRTA teaching.Based on the above results,the following research implications are presented:(1)Teachers should select appropriate reading chapters and write relevant teaching plans according to the actual situation of students.(2)In the teaching process,we should pay more attention to the emotional changes of students and adjust our teaching progress appropriately.(3)Teachers should not ignore the traditional English reading teaching method while using the DRTA teaching method,which can be properly integrated.
