| English reading is an important part of junior high school students’ English learning process because it is one of the language input methods.The improvement of reading can promote the language acquisition of junior high school students,internalize their input knowledge,and lay a good foundation for language output.However,the current junior high school English reading teaching aims at exams and focuses on explaining grammar.A good reading teaching environment has not yet been established.The reading teaching model tends to be rigid and the reading classroom atmosphere is dull so that students lack reading motivation,and their reading ability cannot be cultivated.The reading performance has not improved significantly either,and many students have not even reached the requirements of the compulsory education English curriculum standard(2011).In this context,the junior high school English reading classroom teaching model is in urgent need of improvement.With the continuous efforts of Chinese scholars,a foreign language teaching method with distinctive Chinese characteristics has emerged.The“Production-oriented Approach”(POA),proposed by Wen Qiufang,is dedicated to overcoming the shortcomings of “separating learning from use” in traditional foreign language teaching.After more than ten years of development,its theory and practice have been improved day by day,and the research results have been rich which provides a lot of experience for follow-up research.Based on POA,this paper uses questionnaires,interviews,and tests to explore the effectiveness of POA in the teaching of English reading in junior one.As research subjects,the author chose two parallel classrooms in Dalian No.118 Middle School,and conducted a four-month experiment to explore the effect of POA on English reading of junior one students.This paper’s research questions are as follows: 1.How dose POA affect English reading motivation of junior one students? 2.How dose POA affect English reading performance of junior one students? 3.How dose POA affect English reading comprehension ability of junior one students?The results of this study are: 1.POA can stimulate students’ English reading motivation;2.POA can improve students’ English reading performance;3.POA can cultivate students’ English reading comprehension ability.This paper expands the range of applicable learners of POA,and preliminarily verifies its feasibility and superiority in the teaching of English reading in junior one.Applying POA to English reading teaching in junior one can promote students’ English reading motivation,English reading comprehension ability and English reading performance.It is worthy of application and promotion in junior high school English reading teaching in the future. |
