An E-C Translation Report On Data Analytics In Football:Positional Data Collection,Modelling And Analysis(Excerpts)

As an important sport in China’s sports circle,football has been well received by the domestic public.Under the background of the current strategy of building China into a country strong in sports,more and more people are concerned about football and more and more parents support their children’s development in football.The government attaches more and more importance to the development of football.However,our football development level is still relatively low,which determines that our football information is mainly in the “input” stage.In this stage,the translation of foreign football books is essential.This translation practice report selects the football book Data Analysis in Football--Location data Collection,Modeling and analysis published in the run-up to the 2018 World Cup,combines Skopos theory with football book translation,explores the translation strategies of English football books,and aims to make a contribution to the translation practice of English football books into Chinese.The fourth chapter of this report,guided by Skopos theory and combined with cases,discusses the corresponding translation strategies of English football books from four aspects: title,vocabulary,syntax and discourse.In title translation,the translator should choose the translation that conforms to the target language reader’s habit and enhances the title’s appeal.In terms of vocabulary translation,the translator should choose the most accurate way of expression,and the idiomatic usage should follow the conventional translation.The translation method of alternative words should be selected according to the object.Terms and acronyms should be translated in accordance with international norms.In terms of syntactic translation,if the translation lacks necessary information,it should be supplemented to facilitate readers’ understanding.If the sentence structure does not conform to the expression habits of the target language,necessary sentence conversion should be made by deleting unnecessary content or adjusting the word order on the basis of understanding the original text.In the aspect of text translation,if the structure of English and Chinese texts is quite different from each other,the paragraph should be reconstructed.If the structure of the two texts is similar,a sequential translation strategy should be adopted.By exploring the translation strategies of English football books in this translation practice,the translator not only deepened his understanding of such texts,but also tested what he had learned during his postgraduate period.At the same time,this report is expected to provide some reference for other translators to translate English football books.
