| This report takes the transfer news of the European Football section of the BBC website as an example.Under the guidance of Skopos Theory,the author discusses the difficulties encountered during translation and the translation methods used.Transfer news,as one of the most representative football news,mainly reports transfer result and the influence on player and club development.The source text is informative text.So the translator should not only accurately convey the original information,but also try his best to retain the communicative and entertaining nature of transfer news.The whole practice report includes five chapters.The first chapter is task description;including the background of task and linguistic features of the source text.The second chapter is the description of translation process,including preparatory works,translation process and proofreading and feedback.The third chapter is theoretical framework,in which the outline of Skopos Theory and its three core principles are introduced.The fourth chapter is the case analysis.Guided by Skopos Theory,the translator mainly analyzes examples from the lexical level,syntactic level and textual level.In the lexical level,free translation,metonymy and annotation are discussed on the translation of club names,terms and some conventional words.As for the syntactic level,the translation of long sentences is observed with the methods of cutting,reversing and recasting.When it comes to textual level,two directions are introduced-cohesion by conjunctions and coherence by logic.And the last chapter is the conclusion which not only pointing out the gains and shortcomings of the translation practice,but also hope this practice can provide reference for other translators engaged in football news translation. |
