| With the promulgation of the English Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2022 Edition),the systematic cultivation of students’ thinking quality in junior middle school has gradually carried out.The cultivation of students’ thinking quality is one of the important objectives of English teaching.In English reading teaching,a large number of reading activities require the participation of students’ thinking quality.Therefore,English reading teaching is often regarded as the carrier of the cultivation of students’ thinking quality.In order to better cultivate students’ English thinking quality,it is necessary to understand the current situation of junior middle school students’ English thinking quality,and put forward relevant suggestions for the problems existing in the current situation.This study focuses on junior middle school students and junior middle school English teachers within the scope of Z city.A questionnaire survey was conducted on302 students and 123 teachers in the first and second grades of 9 junior middle schools in Z city to understand the current situation of cultivating students’ thinking quality in English reading teaching.And based on the statistical analysis results of the questionnaire,six English teachers were interviewed to understand the current situation and provide suggestions.This study focuses on the following questions:(1)What is the current situation of the cultivation of students’ thinking quality in English reading teaching?(2)Why such phenomena exit in the cultivation of thinking quality in junior middle school English reading teaching? To analyze the possible causes that hinder the development of students’ thinking quality.(3)How to provide possible suggestions for the cultivation of thinking quality in junior middle school English reading teaching?The study found the following phenomena in the cultivation of students’ thinking quality in junior middle school English reading teaching.Firstly,junior middle school English teachers have a great cognition of thinking quality,but teaching practice is insufficient.Secondly,the cultivation of students’ logical thinking is better than that of dialectical and innovative thinking,but there is still space for improvement in the cultivation of students’ thinking quality.The study further analyzed the causes of the current situation of thinking quality cultivation.Analysis the causes of teachers:(1)Insufficient cognition of cultivating thinking quality,including teachers fail to update educational concepts,teachers’ confusion about teaching objectives.(2)Teachers’ own thinking quality need to be improved,including the lack of systematic thinking training that hinders the implementation of teaching,and the neglect of the dominant position of students in teaching.(3)Insufficient teaching methods of cultivating thinking quality,including factors such as the stereotype of partial teachers’ instructional design,the failure of instructional design to follow the scientific development principles of thinking quality,and inadequate questioning strategies.(4)Insufficient evaluation mechanism of cultivating thinking quality,including teachers’ neglect of the importance of formative evaluation,and excessive emphasis on language knowledge in evaluation content.Based on the above research,the following suggestions are proposed.Teachers need to use learner-centered reading teaching method,enrich teaching design,attach importance to the process evaluation,pay attention to creating reading situations,and cultivate students’ behavioral habits of active thinking in English reading.Schools should establish a multiple evaluation system,strengthen teacher training,and enhance the awareness of cultivating teachers’ English thinking quality. |
