A Report On The Translation Of Tourism Text Of Qinhu Lake Scenic Area Under The Guidance Of The Skopos Theory

The translation material in this report is transcribed from the tourism messages in Qinhu Lake Scenic Area,which provides a large amount of information including the useful information,cultural information,and the introduction of scenic spots.It is crucial for the author to apply some proper translation techniques under the guidance of the appropriate theory so that the target text is much easier to understand.The skopos theory holds that translation is a purposeful activity so that the application of the translation strategies during the translation process should be determined by the purpose of translation.And knowing the language function of the target text and why the source text is to be translated are the basic and essential step before the translator applies this theory.That means fulfilling the desired purpose is more important than preserving the content and form.The translation material in this report is the typically informative and vocative text,whose aims are to transmit the useful information about the scenic spots and allure the tourists to pay a visit.Thus after understanding the functions and purposes of this translation,the author,under the guidance of the skopos theory and its three rules,focuses on expressing the informative function and vocative function of the target text without missing the features of the source text at the lexical and syntactic level.At the lexical level,the author primarily concerns on the translation of culture-loaded words such as the word about myths and the conventional expression,and reproduces the connotative meanings of the normal words under the specific context.At the syntactic level,the author adheres to the idiomatic expression of the target readers and reorganizes the sentence structure,and adapts original information by properly adopting the connectives.So that the target text can convey the information coherently and express smoothly,and arouse the target readers’ interests in visiting the scenic area.Through the translation practice,the author finds that the skopos theory provides a better way to improve the quality of tourism text.What’s more,this translation practice could introduce some useful measures to improve the use of English in the scenic area,such as the translator should focus on the purpose of the translation;the translated version should reproduce the informative and vocative functions of language in the tourism text.
