Numerous enterprises in China are presently grappling with the issue of unauthorized trademark infringement by other enterprises.Such illegal activities have impeded the victimized enterprises to defend their rights. In light of this,it is imperative to protect the infringed enterprises,as it is crucial to their competitiveness in both domestic and international markets.Common Enterprise Intellectual Property Questions and Answers introduces the registration, application and filing process of trademarks and patent copyrights to relevant enterprises, and providing them with methods to protect their rights. This is a practical report on Chinese-to-English translation,in which the translator has excerpted two chapters from the text entitled Common Enterprise Intellectual Property Questions and Answers.According to Reiss’ s text typology, the source language text is classified as an informative legal text.By analyzing the characteristics of this text, the translator has been able to skillfully select translation strategies and skills tailored to legal texts.First of all,by consulting relevant websites and books, the translator chose Reiss’ s text typology as the guiding theory of this task.Secondly, the translator revised and proofread the translation after translating the source text and analysing the accuracy of the vocabulary, the fluency of the sentence, and the cohesion and coherence of the text encountered in the translation process. At the lexical level, the analysis has focused on legal terminology and terms with multiple meanings. At the syntactic level, long and difficult sentences and passive sentences were analyzed.Regarding textual analysis, the translator has utilized the addition of conjunctions to reflect the logical coherence of the source text.In addition to this, under the guidance of Reiss’ s text typology, the translator has employed flexible translation strategies, such as literal translation, free translation and skills like omission and amplification to solve difficult sentences in translation. This translation practice has not only enabled the translator to gain a deeper understanding of the legal field but also provided a valuable opportunity to enhance the translator’s skills in applying translation theory and techniques.
