A Report On The English-Chinese Translation Of Intellectual Property And The Law Of Ideas (Excerpts)

Ideas are thoughts formulated by human intellects,and the ideas are in the scope of intellectual property,but they have their own characteristics.In recent years,with the surge of ideas originated in various forms,tons of disputes have arisen.Therefore,the elaboration of corresponding laws and provisions is urgently needed to popularize the knowledge of law and raise the awareness of idea protection among the participants.Intellectual Property and the Law of Ideas aims to help the participants in idea-related fields via the explanation of real cases and provisions.The book features accurate use of words and strong logical relations.In this case,under the guidance of the text typology theory,the translator selects the book and writes the translation report based on the translation of the second to the fourth chapter.This report can be divided into five parts.The first three parts introduce the background of the report,the related information of the source text and the whole process of the translation.In the fourth part,there are three aspects to be discussed.At the lexical level,the translator focuses on the translation of proper nouns and different legal terms in English and Chinese because of the importance of having the correct translation in a legal text.As for the syntactic level,the translator analyzes the reconstruction of complex sentences and translation of passive sentences.The translator also discusses the cohesive devices at the discoursal level to maintain the logical relation in the target text.The last part is the conclusion of the report.In the process of the translation practice,the translator deepens the understanding in terms of translating words,sentences and texts with legal characteristics.When it comes to the translation of a legal text,the first key is to assure the correctness of words.Some terms may not have corresponding target expressions,so related research is important before doing translation.The second key is to maintain the logical relation in the target text as much as possible.As for complex sentences,it is always important to find and reproduce the condition and sequence in different legal provisions.Hopefully this report can provide some enlightenment to similar and related translations in the future.
