The source text selected for this translation practice report is from The Handbook of Media Education Research,a collection of academic papers related to media education.The selected papers focus on the impact of media education on youth around the world,the significance of media development and its new possibilities for social development,including four papers on the change of children’s television viewing behavior in Australia,the meme culture of young people in India,the integration of indigenous and globalized cultures in Africa,and the impact of media development on people with disabilities in the southern hemisphere.The translation practice is guided by translation shifts theory.The author analyzes the application of this theory in translation practice from two dimensions:level shifts and category shifts.In order to achieve the equivalence between the translation and the source text,the author converts English tenses,aspects and plurals into Chinese characters through level shifts.In addition,the author adopts structure shifts,class shifts and unit shifts in category shifts to enhance the readability of the translation and make it more authentic.Then it proves that translation shifts theory is suitable for guiding the translation of informative texts.The translation practice not only provides an opportunity for the author to combine translation shifts theory with the translation practice,but also helps the target language readers understand the cutting-edge development and influence of media education,which is significant.
