| The source text of the translation report is selected from Handbook of Offshore Oil and Gas Operations(Chapter 7),which focuses on offshore oil and gas transportation.The text is professional and complex,which requires accurate,objective and logical expression.The report mainly applies the level shift and category shift in Catford’s translation shifts theory and has done a large number of case studies from the level of words and sentences to explore the translation process.The main findings are as follows: most problems encountered in translation have been solved under the guidance of Catford’s translation shift theory.Through level shifts theory,the report has carried out the shifts between singular and plural nouns as well as the tense shift.Based on the category shift theory,the following shifts are made in the report: positive sentences into negative sentences,passive sentences into active sentences,long difficult sentences into simple sentences,as well as nouns,prepositions and adjectives into verbs.It is hoped that this report can provide some reference for translators engaged in offshore oil and gas industry. |
