Lace,also known as drawnwork or lace,is translated from the word "Drawn Work" and lace is translated from "Lace",both of which bear obvious foreign marks.Lace rose in European palaces in the 16 th century and became popular throughout Europe from the 17 th to the 18 th century.In the mid-19 th century,lace entered China under the background of Sino Western exchanges.Its introduction was closely related to factors such as international movements,international relations,domestic and foreign economies,and changes in lifestyle at that time.In the 19 th century,international wars broke out and the Industrial Revolution began.With the opening of domestic trade ports,social and ideological changes,lace was introduced to China as a small decorative decoration for the imperial concubines of the Qing Dynasty,and experienced a process of vigorous development and gradual decline during the Republic of China period.This paper focuses on the study of lace culture and artistic aesthetic expression in modern China(1840-1949),and conducts a longitudinal study to sort out the Western origins and development process of lace introduced to China.It is found that lace has a strong historical,aesthetic,and social significance.The modern application of lace inlay at the collar,cuffs and hem of clothing conveys the aesthetic and values of the times,highlights the fashion characteristics and aesthetic changes in the process of exchanges between Chinese and Western arts and crafts,and objectively reflects the trend of social change,female image,ideological emancipation and fashion decoration in modern China.Horizontally analyze the artistic and design characteristics of lace in modern decoration applications,pattern evolution,and craftsmanship techniques,and grasp the ethnic characteristics and cultural heritage contained in modern lace.In order to better apply lace design to contemporary design fields,it is necessary to inject more comprehensive basic theories,provide guidance for future innovative applications of lace,and continuously expand the application fields of lace to achieve lace design and market demand Combining fashion and fashion to better integrate into modern design,creating products that combine decorative and artistic expression.In the current context of globalized culture,China’s design industry is developing rapidly,and designers have begun to abandon the imitation of Western culture and focus on the application of traditional culture.They realize that integrating ethnic characteristics into design works is the trend of modern design,and traditional elements are the theme and direction of today’s art and design development,just as lace expresses.This article is based on historical and contemporary perspectives,using research methods such as image research,literature research,and comparative research.The study will follow the historical development process,interpret the social and cultural connotations of lace,and analyze the artistic expression forms of the integration of Chinese and Western lace.Combining contemporary fashion brand HOURI for design practice,through system analysis,element extraction,innovative design methods,and combining with modern design and craftsmanship techniques,we attempt to comprehensively design and apply modern materials,providing certain reference value for the modern fashion clothing industry and lace design innovation,which is suitable for current design practices.
