There are a large number of chapters related to the Confucius’ narratives and quotations in ancient texts and the compilation of these chapters has been continuous,The Analects and Records of the Grand Historian are the early representative works,which is also the focus of academic attention,but there is still a lack of systematic research of later compilation.During the Qianjia period,scholars have a wealth of representative results in the collation of ancient documents,and the compilation of Confucius’ narratives and quotations also saw the emergence of such a masterpiece as Sun Xingyan’s Kong Zi Ji Yu.This paper takes the compilation of Confucius’ narratives and quotations by Qing Dynasty scholars as the object of discussion:First,define and distinguish the Confucius’ s narratives and quotations materials in the early Confucius literature and discuss the history of the compilation of the Confucius’ s narratives and quotations,it is divided into three periods: before Liu Xiang and others to organize the official text in the Western Han Dynasty,from the Eastern Han Dynasty to the Northern Song Dynasty,and from the Southern Song Dynasty to the Qing Dynasty.Secondly,the literature of the Qing Dynasty is divided into compilation of narratives,compilation of quotations,and compilation of prototype.The documents of narratives compile,Ma Su’s Kong Zi Lei Ji and Di Ziqi’s Kong Zi Bian Nian are representative works,and they are distinctly historical in character,influenced by the Qing Dynasty style of examining evidence and the importance of evidence for conclusions.In the case of Ma Su,he preferred to compile a wide range of documents,while Di Ziqi preferred brevity and accuracy.The documents of quotations compile,represented by Cao Tingdong’s Yi Yu and Sun Xingyan’s Kong Zi Ji Yu,Yi Yu was arranged in the style of the Analects of Confucius,with commentaries following the format of Zhu Xi’s Ji Zhu,and the content of the commentaries also included the words of disciples,with attempts at examination and interpretation,Kong Zi Ji Yu imitates the style of Shuo Yuan and Xin Xu,and the documents are ranked from each other by class,and the collection of literature is very extensive actually,not lacking of chapters to record events,Compiled by Sun Xingyan,Gu Guangqi and Yan Kejun,the spirit and skills of the Qian Jia school of thought are fully reflected in the compilation of this texts.The documents of prototype compile is mainly related to the Analects and Classic of Filial Piety.The purpose of the compilation of the Analects is to present The Ancient Lunyu、Qi Lunyu and Lu Lunyu in the textual system of the Han Dynasty,and to clear the source for the study of the scriptures;the compilation of Classic of Filial Piety involves the question of whether the Ancient Classic of Filial Piety has Gui Men Zhang.In the various types of literature exploration,the basic information of each book,compilation ideas and style,the selection of materials and textual criticism,respectively,from the philology perspective to explore the motives of Qing Dynasty scholars to compile Confucius materials,literature compilation practice on previous experience,the spirit of textual criticism in the practice of editors.Finally,we will evaluates the improvements and shortcomings of Qing Dynasty scholars in compiling Confucius’ s narratives and quotations.This paper argues that its improvements over previous generations include: the literature collected and edited is more detailed and completeness;have a stronger spirit of Textual criticism and mature collating skills;have a stronger sense of literature classification.The shortcomings in the compilation include: the style of codification is mostly based on predecessors and lacks creativity;there is subjectivity in the examination of collected documents under the psychology of reverence Confucius;some books are summarized in characteristic,but there is a lack of systematic understanding of the characteristics of early Chinese texts.
