| In 2016,China released a general framework for the development of key competencies for Chinese students to cultivate talents who can adapt to future social development.The subject core competence which is the embodiment and carrier of students’ development of core competence has further refined and clarified the educational value of the subject.The English Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2022 Edition)defines the curriculum objectives of cultivating primary school students’ core competence of English subject.As the executor of primary school English curriculum,the professional development of primary school English teachers plays a key role in the cultivation of primary school students’ core competence of English subject.Therefore,the primary school English teachers’ professional development is faced with new requirements,which require teachers to have the education concept and teaching concept centered on the cultivation of students’ core competence of English subject,grasp the connotation and structure of the core competence of English subject,as well as stronger teaching ability and scientific research ability.In this study,literature on core competence,core competence of English subject,the teachers’ professional development and the primary school English teachers’ professional development at home and abroad is reviewed.Concepts related to core competence of English subject,teachers’ professional development and primary school English teachers’ professional development are defined.The relationship between core competence of English subject and primary school English teachers’ professional development and corresponding requirements are discussed.This study investigated the professional development of 307 primary school English teachers in S City of Fujian Province by issuing questionnaires,and selected 5primary school English teachers for in-depth interviews.Through the investigation of the basic situation of primary school English teachers in S City,Fujian Province,teachers’ understanding of core competence of English subjects,teachers’ professional development and other aspects,it is found that some primary school English teachers’ do not understand the core competence deeply,do not update the educational concept in a timely manner.And the teaching ability needs to be improved and the effect of teacher training is not good.Through the investigation,the problems found were analyzed from three aspects: society,schools and teachers themselves.Finally this study puts forward countermeasures from three aspects: the education administration department,the school and the teachers themselves.That is,the education department should provide the guarantee for the professional development of primary school English teachers,the school should strengthen the organization of teachers’ professional development,and the primary school English teachers should enhance their awareness and ability of professional development.Therefore,the professional development of primary school English teachers will be promoted through multiple measures,and the goal of cultivating the pupils’ core competence of English subject will be achieved. |
