| With the continuous advancement of the “Belt and Road” initiative,especially since the 18 th National Congress of the Communist Party of China,China has made a series of major decisions in opening-up and international cooperation,which enabled the active participation of more Chinese enterprises in international projects.In the overseas development of Chinese enterprises,international engineering projects take a pivotal position,and the translation of bidding document is the primary preparation to undertake overseas projects.As an important part of international trade activities,the significance of bidding documents is self-evident,so accurate and effective translation of international bidding documents is crucial for international business activities.The author selected the “Instructions to bidder” part of “Bidding Document for Procurement of Construction of Double Lane Dual Carriageway Standard Expressway Road,Bridge and Allied Works”(hereinafter referred to as "the Bidding document")as the source text,and explored and studied the translation strategy of this text under the guidance of Peter Newmark’s text typology.This translation practice report is analyzed and summarized in the following four parts: Chapter I,Task description,including text selection,purpose and significance and the structure of the report;Chapter II,the translation process,including pre-translation,translation process and theoretical introduction;Chapter III,Case analysis,from lexical and syntactical level,the author further explores the ancient words,modal verbs,conditional sentences and complex long sentences,summarizes the translation strategies suitable for such texts by using appropriate translation skills and methods such as amplification,omission,literal translation,splitting and restructuring under the guidance of text typology.Chapter IV,Conclusion,including translation experience,lessons learned from the report and problems to be solved,and comprehensively summarizing this translation practice task.The purpose of this translation practice report is to sum up and analyze the translation strategies and methods commonly used in bidding documents and provide reference for other text translation of the same type. |
