With the further deepening of globalization,an increasing number of domestic companies are actively taking up the cause of international trade, and thus carry out public tendering activities, leading to a rapid growth of bidding document translation. The translation of bidding documents, unlike translation of other genres of text, has such characteristics as urgency, specialty and standard format with many proper nouns, therefore the translator faces certain difficulty to deal with.Commissioned and entrusted by the Tianjin MTRC,the author undertook the translation work of Appendix to T206 Tender(K-N)of the Subway Construction Contract for the Woodlands in Singapore. This translation practice report is a reflection and summary made with regard of the English-to-Chinese translation project under the theoretical guidance of text type theory by the famous British translator Peter·Newmark. The translation practice report consists of four Chapters.Chapter one is“Description of Translation Task”--to make clear the context of the task, briefly analyze text features and set forth the significance of the translation report.Chapter two is “Description of Translation Process” that details the translation process and specific arrangements and can be further broken down into preparation, proceeding and post-proofreading three parts.Chapter three is “Analysis of Translation Cases”,and in this section,a detailed profile is given to the text type theory at first while a careful diagnosis is later carried out on typical cases in the translation from the perspective of syntax and lexicon and with the bidding and tendering text features touched upon, this section also probes into the guiding role the theory has played in translation.Chapter four is “Conclusion of Translation Practice” in which the challenges and difficulties during the translation work are listed and experience is briefly discussed so as to better serve as the basis for future work. |
