Bidding document has been part of principal means of international economic and trade activities,whose accuracy and fidelity determine the success of bidding activities.Entrusted by Lanzhou LS Heavy Equipment Corporation Limited.,the translator translated The Technical Requirements and The Quality Control sections of Mechanical Equipment Technical Bidding Document.To begin with,this report briefly explained the background and significance of the translation task.And then,according to the three rules of Skopos Theory,a in-depth analysis was conducted on the aspects of background information,text types and sentence and discourse structures.It is shown that technical bidding document is a typical informative text with a large number of professional and technical terminologies.In addition,the main difficulty in translating is to deal with the differences between Chinese and English language structures to ensure the readability of the translation.Therefore,the translator selected the book English for Mechanical Engineering and Ultra-large Container Moving Factories as parallel texts for the reference of the terms and text type.Taking the linguistic characteristics of the text into account,the translator used different translation methods and skills to carry out translation practice with the help of online translation tools such as Trados and Tmxmall.To meet the standard of “fidelity” and “coherence” of the source text,translation skills like division,combination,addition,omission and conversion are adopted to solve some difficulties on the aspects of words and sentences.The report comes to the following conclusions.Firstly,under the guidance of Skopos Theory,it is necessary to communicate with professionals and clients to have a better understanding of the text and sufficient preparations are needed before translating.Secondly,different translation methods and skills should be used to guarantee the readability of the target text.Finally,the translator should revise for quite a few times after translation to give a guarantee on readability.
