This thesis is a report on the translation of the two selected chapters from a leadership book named Lunchtime Learning for Leaders: 16 Ways to Grow Your Resilience and Influence,a leadership book by Lucy Ryan,a leadership coach, and published by Kogan Page in 2021.The leadership book is a simple, practical guide with 16 chapters, each of them providing a key leadership insight that can be acquired in small moments like lunchtime.Chapter 1 and Chapter 2 of this book are selected in this report. The first chapter explains how to maintain leadership balance, helping readers understand the differences between managing, leading, and coaching, and the second one expounds on the management of personal energy, helping readers know what it takes to have the physical, mental, and emotional energy and be a better leader. The translation of the two chapters is completed cooperatively. The first translator finished the preliminary translation, while the second is in charge of the proofreading work.To facilitate the final translation, the first translator also provided his suggestions. In view of the content and linguistic characteristics of the source text, the two translators, guided by Hans Vermeer’s Skopos theory, finished the translation.Vermeer argues that translation is a kind of action with a distinct purpose. The translation purpose determines the methods and strategies selected.Consequently, the translator needs to employ appropriate ones to meet the needs of the target readers, which constitutes translation difficulties and challenges. In this report, from such perspectives as lexicon and syntax, the translators analyzed the source text to find translation difficulties and challenges, upheld the three principles of the Skopos theory, and explored relevant translation methods, thus making the translation plain and faithful to the source text, and friendly to target readers. This report is designed to provide a reference for the translation and translation studies of leadership books, thus helping leaders in all walks of life in China better understand leadership books from afar and making some contributions to the development of leadership in China.
