This translation practice project is based on the best-seller "Jumpstart Your Leadership:A 90-Day Improvement Plan " written by John C.Maxwell.The author,John Maxwell,is known as the authority of American leadership. This book is the first volume in the author’s "Jumpstart" series. It starts with "leadership" which is the author’s most familiar field. With concise but contagious words, the author gives many vivid examples in inspiring words in order to show how to be an excellent leader and aims to improve readers’ leadership through a 90-day plan.As a best-seller,it aims at a large amount of target audiences. In the process of translation, the translator firstly made an analysis of the characteristics of the source text.According to the text typology theory, this source text shows both the expressive function and the vocative function.Newmark’s communicative translation theory is more appropriate for the two text types. Therefore,Newmark’s communicative translation theory could provide theoretic reference to this translation project. The translator put emphasis on exploring the translation methods on lexical and syntactic levels. On lexical level, the translator analyzed and chose three methods which are amplification, omission and conversion. On syntactic level, the translator adopted voice change, division and combination respectively to improve the translation version for many of the passive, complex and simple sentences. The usage of the above translation methods makes the translation version smoother and accord with the expression of Chinese, which helps to realize the true intention of the author.Through analysis and summary of the translation methods of such texts, the translator wrote this report and made a wish to improve her translation practice skill and make a modest contribution to the translation of management texts.
