Alice Walker,one of the most famous black women writers in American literature,has made a significant impact on Western literature with her latest novel,Gathering Blossoms Under Fire: The Journals of Alice Walker,1965–2000,which vividly reflects the profound suffering of black women and praises their indomitable spirit and self-reliant character in the face of adversity through the self-narrative style of a diary.Using the third chapter of the novel as an example,this translation practice explores the strategies and representations of literary translation based on the Framework theory,while focusing on Walker’s feminist consciousness,the concept of racial equality and the spirit of global citizenship.Charles Fillmore’s theory of framing contributes to the theoretical derivation of translation in this report.Fillmore found that frames are cognitive structures stored in the human brain by inhabitants of a particular group or community who share the same beliefs,values and similar experiences.Different cultural backgrounds create different frame structures,and the same words or expressions can lead to different semantic interpretations.In other words,“the meaning and syntax of words depend on the frame”.This theory not only provides an excellent perspective on the basic cognitive mechanisms of knowledge systems in the process of understanding the meaning of texts,but also provides theoretical support for the translation practice of this study.Given that cultural differences in the field of Fillmore’s frames include four dimensions of frame coherence,frame adjustment,frame replacement and frame filling,this report follows this logical deduction and uses Part 3 of Walker’s new work as the target text to analyze in depth the cognitive paradigm of the different frames activated by the translated language and the source language,to explore the cognitive connections between the target language and the source language,the reader and the translator,as well as the cognitive differences in different contexts and cultures.Translation techniques and translation strategies applicable to this type of translation are analyzed in order to enable the target readers to understand the target language,reduce the cognitive effort of the target language readers and reduce cognitive barriers.At the same time,the subject of this book is a diary-style literary autobiography,which has such typical characteristics as very distinctive life,authenticity of events and emotional vitality,and it is crucial to maintain the style and convey the emotion of the translation,so that the translation is logical,clear,appropriate in style and fluent in order to better present the effect of the original text.Through framework theory exploration and case studies,the translator found that frame theory is of great significance to the translation practice of literary works.On the one hand,translators can effectively reduce cognitive barriers and bridges the cognitive differences between the target language and the source language,thus better facilitating the intellectual communication between the author and the reader,as well as improving the readability and enjoyability of the translation,which is an important guideline to enhance the translation quality of the translator.On the other hand,translators can familiarize themselves with translation techniques,improve their cultural awareness and critical thinking skills while exploring the topic of translation theory optimization,the significance of which cannot be overstated.
