As the re-excavation of historical documents has become a new academic hotspot, researchers have found that the literary appearance presented by modern newspapers is different from that described in literary history. The previous methods of studying author’s separate edition or collections have changed.More and more researchers are returning to newspapers and periodicals to dig out literary materials in their original form, trying to discover new information to reread the works of writers and even revisit the history of literature. In the analysis of historical materials, the literature and art supplements of newspapers, magazines, and writers that had been left unreserved before were discovered, and the writer Wang Yuqi was salvaged in the process and entered the field of view of researchers. With the progress of related research and the publication of Wang Yuqi Collected Works,Wang Yuqi’s works, life experience, and creation process have gradually been presented as a whole. In the 1920 s and 1930 s,Wang Yuqi was very active in the modern literary world and had a place in the northern literary world. This is reflected in his active contribution, participation in literary organizations, and creation of multiple publications. It shows that Wang Yuqi’s literary path is inseparable from newspapers. The original ecological literary space of newspapers and periodicals is an excellent place for Wang Yuqi to accumulate experience and expand outward. It reflects the actual situation he was in at that time, and shows his literary activities and literary thoughts. The thesis aims to observe how Wang Yuqi fits into the modern literary world by entering the original newspapers and periodicals, compiling the lost articles left in the newspapers and periodicals, grabbing out two types of typical works such as railway reports and travel notes, and discovering Wang Yuqi?s universality and uniqueness in the history of modern Chinese Literature. The first chapter takes Wang Yuqi?s concentrated contributions and edited publications in the 1920 s and 1930 s as the main line,re-examines Wang Yuqi?s literary growth before the full-scale war of resistance, and focuses on his transformation process, thereby revisiting hisdeeds in the 20 s and 30 s.Wang Yuqi joined the Deserted Island Society, the Vain society, the Contemporary Literature Society, the Northern Left League, the Boo Society and other literary societies or organizations. He was responsible for editing Virgin Soil,Vain weekly,Beiping Daily Supplement,Contemporary Literature,Hush,Monthly Literature and other publications. At the same time,he contributed to the publications of Peking Morning News and Guowen Weekly for a long time.Behind these social activities, editorial activities, and creative activities, there are complex transformation issues hidden.Affected by personal experience and changes in the national situation,Wang Yuqi’s creation and ideological concepts have changed. In the 1920 s,Wang Yuqi was good at writing about youth life, emotions between men and women, accompanied by a little discussion of social issues. In the 1930 s,especially after the September 18 Incident,he turned to writing about the social revolution. In 1937,he moved into revolutionary practice activities, and went to the Central China and Northwestern China to carry out acting activities. The second chapter starts the compilation of Wang Yuqi’s lost articles left in the newspapers before the Anti-Japanese War,and compares them with Wang Yuqi Collected Works for textual research, and then finds out Wang Yuqi’s richness and omissions.Going back to the original document of newspapers and periodicals brought new discoveries and salvaged many of Wang Yuqi’s lost articles.According to the nature of the article, the publication office and Wang Yuqi’s experience, the collected lost articles are divided into five parts. The traffic report and the two series of travel notes,Seeing Westward and Roaming Notes are two distinctive creations in the lost articles. These articles have not been discovered or paid attention to in previous research. They demonstrate the complexity and particularity of Wang Yuqi and are the focus of introduction. These lost articles form a cross-referencewith known information, enriching Wang Yuqi’s creation face and filling in some of his blank experiences.Chapter 3 discusses Wang Yuqi’s railway report, from which he examines Wang Yuqi’s patriotic practice and conceptual world, gains insights into his social cognition and conception of national construction, and rereads his literary creation from the perspective of railway writing.Wang Yuqi is a railway worker. He observes the railway industry from a professional perspective. His understanding of railways is naturally different from other modern writers. The railway report is Wang Yuqi’s creation based on his own work.It is different from literary works, but it also affects his literary writing. On the one hand, the railway report presents Wang Yuqi’s thoughts and concepts. It is a mirror of Wang Yuqi’s observation of national conditions and patriotic practice. It contains Wang Yuqi’s patriotism and also tells his railroad dream. On the other hand, the railway report influenced Wang Yuqi’s literary writing style, and he formed a plan to write a series of railway stories.Modern vehicles such as railways(trains)often appear in Wang Yuqi’s novels and essays, showing the secret and depressing psychological experience of modern people, and serving as miniature samples of a society full of wars and chaos. The fourth chapter captures the Westward Journey,Roaming Notes and The Journey Of Half Southeast and Qufu Taishan Journey from the lost articles, combined with the travel notes included in Wang Yuqi Collected Works to explore Wang Yuqi’s origin of the creation of travel notes, and understand Wang Yuqi’s spiritual world again. In the 1930 s,Wang Yuqi traveled throughout the northern, southeast, and southwestern regions of China.During this period, there was a wave of westward craze in the society, and a wave of travel notes creation craze in the literary world.Triggered by his personal travel experience and inspired by the era,Wang Yuqi began to write a large number of travel notes, recording what he saw and heard, what he thought and felt during the journey. These travel notes are rich in multi-layered meanings, expressing the release of self-emotions and contemplation of life with the depiction of natural landscapes, achieving the anatomy and criticism of reality through the representation of social scenes and typical portraits. From the narration of the foreigners and foreign goods encountered on the road, the judgment of the state of the country and the deep sense of anxiety are embodied. |
