Youth World And The Spread Of Socialist Thought During The May Fourth Period

As one of the periodicals sponsored by the Junior China Society,Juvenile World not only represented the aspirations of progressive youth for freedom of expression and emancipation of thought,but also had the political significance of spreading new ideas and transforming a new society.It was founded in January 1920 and published by the Nanjing branch of the Junior China Society with the aim of "making a practical investigation of society and seeking a fundamental transformation of the world",and ceased publication in December of the same year.The content of "Young World" was mainly based on the study of social reality,and it was very popular among the progressive youth at that time,and was once used by them as an important source of understanding the world and exposure to new ideas.As a world-focused ideological book,Young World attached great importance to the coverage of various social movements,practices,and investigations around the world,and sought to show domestic youth the situation in various countries and the dynamics of socialist thought.Therefore,this paper digs deeper into the content of the text of Junior World by reading the original text,and concludes that the journal contains the following four schools of socialist thought.The first was scientific socialism,whose proponents opposed bourgeois reform,encouraged the people to fight to the end against all authoritarian regimes,and placed their hope in the proletariat,advocating the nationalization of capitalist industries in the economy and the transformation of private ownership into equal ownership.At the same time,they were also very concerned about women’s emancipation and labor issues;secondly,there was the socialism of Kielt,which advocated the path of "warm" improvement,and its main purpose was to free China from poverty and backwardness,expand workers’ autonomy,and thus achieve progressive social development;thirdly,there was the new villageism,whose main content was to encourage The third is New Villageism,whose main content is to encourage youth to take root in the countryside,to implement social experiments,and to build small model rural families as the main way to realize communism through gradual improvement,so as to complete the metamorphosis of the whole society;the fourth is Labor Unionism,whose ideology advocates the role of workers in social governance,allowing workers to participate in the management of social assets,hoping to replace government governance with workers’ autonomy,so as to establish a new social order.From these contents,it is easy to see that the original intention of the Junior China Society and its contributing authors was to absorb the successful experiences and advanced guiding ideas of various countries,and then to organize and pave a suitable path for China’s development.All in all,the study of the text and its connotations in the Junior World is of great significance.For it not only made outstanding contributions to the dissemination of socialist ideas,but also provided reference materials for the study of socialist schools of thought in the May Fourth period,and while promoting the encounter of various schools of thought,it also gave certain inspiration to the Chinese workers’ movement and laid a solid foundation for the development of the spread of Marxism in China.
