Education is a fundamental way to cultivate talents, and teaching is the core of education.Since classroom teaching is the most common way of education,it is of great significance to improve it.As such,in this translation project, the first and second chapters from the book Creating Sensory Smart Classrooms were selected as the source text. There are a lot of technical terms in the source text but the overall wording is simple. The sentence pattern is flexible, with parenthesis, compound sentences and passive sentences are frequently used.Discourse coherence is realized by the use of referential cohesion and repetition. In this translation practice, the author took the Adaptation Theory proposed by Jef Verschueren as the guiding theory and strove to dynamically adapt to context and language structure for communicative purposes. In order to make the Chinese version faithful to the source text and easy for Chinese readers to understand, the following strategies were adopted: 1)At the lexical level, choose the word meanings by adapting to the communicative context and linguistic context;2)at the sentence level, adjust the sentence order, structure and voice to conform to Chinese expression habits;3)at the textual level, omit referential cohesion, make referent explicit,or change repetition into referential cohesion to make the translation more coherent. This translation practice has proved that the Adaptation Theory has a certain explanatory value for translation activities, and it can help to guide translation from macro and micro perspectives. It is hoped that the Chinese version of the source text can provide reference for Chinese educators to improve classroom teaching, and that this report can provide references for the translation of similar texts in the future.
